Thank You, God, for My Husband

You may be in a similar position as I was ten years ago when I didn’t feel like saying, “Thank you, God, for my husband.” You wouldn’t have found me focused on the things that made my heart sing. But I’m here TODAY, carrying a torch for you… In a sense, I’m saying, “Follow me!” And I’m positive you’ll eventually say, “Thank you, God, for my husband.”

Reframing Your Perspective

The definition of Living Reframed is being open and receptive to other ways of interpreting your circumstances. Therefore, before we jump into thanking God for our husbands, we must reframe our perspective.

It’s easy to forget or no longer notice what we love about our husbands. Typically, a few years into marriage, we start to see and focus only on what annoys us and what they do wrong.

It’s time to REFRAME.

thank you god for giving me my husband

Your Husband is a Gift

Your husband is a good man, and he is your life partner. I’ll never forget when God convicted me to love my husband based on how God sees him, not on the behavior I was seeing. He called me to love him regardless if he ever changed. That was a tough pill for me to swallow. One lesson I’ve learned while healing our marriage can be summed up in a simple phrase, “Speak to the King, and you’ll get more King. Speak to the idiot, and you’ll get more idiot.” This was such a powerful thought. I tried to focus on it daily. It also was helpful while parenting teenagers. It’s compelling to watch the transition in the men you love when you speak to the King inside!

Healthy Effects of Showing Gratitude

There are so many positive effects of showing gratitude. Before I give you ideas on how to thank God for your husband, we’ll quickly cover just a few.

Being grateful can improve your sleep, work productivity, and even help you prevent heart disease.

It has also been found that practicing gratitude may reduce anxiety symptoms. In a 2014 study, people were given either a gratitude writing prompt or a placebo before their mental health treatment began. Those who wrote about what they were grateful for had a more significant reduction in anxiety symptoms.

Thanking God for Your Husband Is Healthy for Your Marriage

In this article, I loved what Dr. Jolanta Burke, Ph.D., a psychologist at the Centre for Positive Psychology and Health, said about gratitude’s ability to shift your mood:

The mood in a room can be shifted by gratitude. Dr. Burke says that arguing with your partner can leave you focused on what’s not working in your relationship and stewing over what you want to change about the other person.

Alternatively, “you can look at your partner and the situation from the viewpoint of what is positive about them, what you’re grateful for.” From this, Dr. Burke says, “You will send them a message that it is not all bad, that you can see the side that you love about them.” This may help calm them down and turn your argument toward reconciliation.

Despite the disagreement, this change in thinking can help you remember what you appreciate about your partner. Focusing on gratitude in relationships will make you less likely to say something you might regret later.

“If you want to feel closer to someone, thank them,” says Dr. Jolanta Burke, Ph.D.

Ideas on How to Thank God for Your Husband

I will list a few examples of how you can thank God for your husband. Some of these came straight from my journal, and I would like you to use them as inspiration.

You can either write your husband a daily sticky note. Or you can personalize these and write them in your journal. You can get creative and take your time with it.

  1. Thank you, God, for giving me another year with my best friend, lover, and partner-in-crime. I love this man more than I can ever remember loving him.
  2. Thank you, God, for my husband. Thank you for his work ethic. Everything we do would be impossible without him. He’s worked full-time outside the house for the last 23 years. He leaves every morning when it’s dark and comes back when it’s dark. Not only that, but he’s gone all day working to provide stability for our family. It’s because of this, I get to work from home. What a massive sacrifice that I so appreciate.
  3. Thank you, God, for my husband’s walk with you. When I catch him in the morning curled up in a blanket, quietly chasing you down and soaking up your word and presence, it reassures me that you are guiding and protecting him.
  4. Thank you, God, for how my husband parents our children. He’s the sweetest, most loving, and most tender father. He takes them backpacking, fishing, and camping. He loves watching movies with them and also loves wrestling with the boys. I couldn’t ask for a better father for our children!
  5. Thank you, God, for my husband’s sacrifices. He chose to have a risky, drastic surgery so that he could be around to raise the kids and grow old with me. I see the daily sacrifice that surgery has brought on, and I’m proud of him for being so selfless for us.
  6. Thank you, God, for my husband’s genuine soul. I know he would do anything for anyone.
  7. Thank you, God, for everything my husband does around the house. The list is endless! He grocery shops, cooks, and cleans. He also leads the way in decorating the home when the holidays roll around.
  8. Thank you, God, for our differences. You knew we would fit perfectly together. We’re opposites, and it works so well. He keeps me stable with his steady energy, and I loosen him up with my crazy energy! Your design is perfect!
  9. Thank you, God, for my husband, who works out and values his health. He’s such an excellent example for our kids and me. Oh! And I get to benefit from his physique… YES! Thank you, Jesus!
  10. Thank you, God, for a husband who never takes anything too seriously and makes us laugh. What a gift!
  11. Thank you, God, for my husband, who does homework with the kids. And thank you for the season he took over homeschooling during COVID. I’m forever grateful!
  12. Thank you, God, for an irreplaceable husband.
  13. Thank you, God, for my husband who gets into the trenches with practices for all the kids’ sports. He practices in the backyard with them and anywhere else they can squeeze in some extra playtime. What a blessing for the kids!
  14. Thank you, God, for a husband willing to fight for me and our marriage.
  15. Thank you, God, for my husband’s humility and commitment to me.
  16. Thank you, God, for a husband who I’d like to devour often! What a gift and miracle you’ve done in our marriage!
  17. Thank you, God, for my husband, who extends love and grace even when I give very little back.; even when I nitpick and am annoying. He’s so patient.
  18. Thank you, God, for my husband, who has loved me unconditionally even through all my mind, body, and soul metamorphoses with six pregnancies, five children, and hormones.
  19. Thank you, God, for all my husband’s outdoor work in the yard, garden, and house. He’s constantly mowing, weeding, spraying, digging, etc. Thank you, that I never have to worry about those things.
  20. Thank you, God, for my husband, who makes love to me so gently and tenderly. You knew exactly who I needed for true intimacy for the rest of my life. You’re so good to me for giving me my husband.

Wrapping It All Up

Like most exercises I walk you through in Living Reframed, they rarely have one purpose. This post is no different. Through this process, you will find that your love and adoration for your husband will grow. If you choose to share them, you could share one on Facebook with a picture of him, especially if his love language is words of affirmation! You could leave him one in his car so he sees it when driving to and from work. Of course, when he reads them, you are speaking to the King in him. And I promise you’ll see more, King!

“When it comes to thinking about your mate, what are you focused on? If you fix your thoughts on your spouse’s faults and failures, the problems in your marriage will be magnified. On the other hand, if you fix your thoughts on things you can be thankful for, you’ll see your relationship in a whole new light. Your marriage, like all of life, is all about perspective.” — John and Lisa Bevere

Living Reframed is about perspective; thanking your husband will change your outlook, primarily if you practice it daily.
